GKN Automotive opens two further STEM Innovation Labs in India

GKN Automotive, the global leader in drive systems, has opened two further science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Innovation Labs in India, following the successful launch of the Bangalore and Oragadam labs earlier this year.

Designed to inspire the next generation of engineering talent and address the growing skills shortage of engineers in India, the two latest Innovation Labs have been opened in the Kancheepuram district – at Government Middle School, Salamangalam, and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Padappai.

Equipped with electronic tools, mechanical kits, and rapid prototyping equipment, the Innovation Labs provide students with a safe, engaging environment to apply their skills and spark curiosity through real-world experiences. The labs form an important part of GKN Automotive’s global Future Talent Programme – a long-term initiative created to help develop engineers around the world.

The inauguration event featured a showcase of student-led projects developed during a recent summer camp, highlighting the positive impact of hands-on STEM learning, and was attended by senior GKN Automotive leaders, including Tony Bell, Vice President, Operations Asia; Nicolas Chailloux, Vice President, Commercial RNM and India Commercial Sales; and Vinodappu Nirmal, Plant Director of its Oragadam plant.

This latest expansion marks another step in GKN Automotive’s commitment to making STEM education more accessible, practical, and inclusive.
