GKN Automotive’s Limited Slip Differentials (LSD) range
Multi-plate LSD (M-LSD)
GKN Automotive’s highly adaptable torque sensing multi-plate LSD has been proven in multiple axle applications, both RWD and AWD. Easily packaged within an existing transmission or axle, it offers an exceptionally wide range of torque bias ratios that can be tailored to meet on-road and off-road performance needs.
Helical LSD (H-LSD)
GKN Automotive’s high performance helical limited slip differential is proven in front and rear axle applications and available as a centre differential in full-time AWD applications. Designed to improve vehicle traction and handling for exceptional control, this torque-sensing LSD enhances reliability and performance, delivering a torque bias ratio of up to 2.7.
Asymmetric torque bias LSD (AS-LSD)
GKN Automotive’s AS-LSD is a torque-sensitive LSD developed for both front- and rear-axle applications. Using a torque cam helps extend the torque bias ratio adjustment range, delivering asymmetric characteristics that can alter the torque bias ratio between drive and coast.

Disconnect System
Electronic Disconnect Differential (EDD)
Designed for use in the electrically driven secondary axle of hybrids or electric AWD cars; this EDD can disconnect the extra wheels from the final drive for maximum efficiency gains. Located inside the final drive, this design can also be tailored to meet higher torque demands.
Electronic Torque Manger (ETM) / eLSD
Integrated into one of the most powerful series production AWD BEV sportscars on the market, GKN Automotive’s ETM is an electronically controlled limited slip differential and has an exceptional track record. Featuring a direct actuation method that delivers responsive and electronically controlled driveline and axle coupling, it is compatible with a wide variety of propulsion sources.
Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)
Proven in front- and rear-axle applications, GKN Automotive’s robust EDL offers unsurpassed off-road traction performance. With a capable and reliable locking mechanism, it can be easily packaged into most conventional and electric transmissions.
Gearbox
Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT)
GKN Automotives first generation Multi-Mode eTransmission was launched in 2013, the second generation followed in 2021. This dedicated hybrid transmission works in combination with an electric motor, a generator and ICE, delivering a greatly improved fuel efficiency and high performance. The system enables four operating modes: EV drive, series hybrid, parallel hybrid as well as a charging mode.
Single speed gearbox
The next generation of eAxle for mid-size battery electric vehicles, GKN Automotive’s recently launched unit features a new, integrated permanent magnet synchronous motor with hairpin winding. Optimised for weight and cost, it features a high level of mechanical integration, while superior Noise, Vibration, and Harshness performance and efficiency have been achieved with the use of carefully redesigned gears and bearings.
GB P4 Multispeed
Providing high power and torque density, this advanced, integrated eDrive gearbox features both high and low gears, and is available with an optional differential locker. As a result, it delivers remarkable vehicle performance in both on-road and off-road applications.
Baseline ECU platform
Offering a comprehensive portfolio of modular building blocks and innovative design concepts, GKN Automotive’s baseline axle-mounted ECU platform can be tailored specifically to any application requirements. Featuring the highest IP69K protection rating, it enables the creation of cost-effective and high-performing products across a broad spectrum of AWD and eDrive transmissions. Also available for in-cabin mount.
Park Lock System
The fundamental principle and concept of GKN Automotive’s Park Lock System is standard, with the ability to adjust the park wheel to meet functional requirements. Typically, the system uses a BLDC actuator, but it can also be driven by a brushed DC motor as well as by hydraulic actuation. Based on customer requirements, the system can also include a redundant locking mechanism as well as a pawl position sensor.
