Open Differential

GKN Automotive offers a wide range of open differentials, including 2-pinion, 4-pinion and AWD variants. Engineered to meet the torque demands of a range of passenger and light commercial vehicles, these units deliver high levels of integration and exceptional NVH performance.

GKN Automotive’s Limited Slip Differentials (LSD) range

Multi-plate LSD (M-LSD)

GKN Automotive’s highly adaptable torque sensing multi-plate LSD has been proven in multiple axle applications, both RWD and AWD. Easily packaged within an existing transmission or axle, it offers an exceptionally wide range of torque bias ratios that can be tailored to meet on-road and off-road performance needs.

Active Torque Management

Disconnect System

Electronic Disconnect Differential (EDD)

Designed for use in the electrically driven secondary axle of hybrids or electric AWD cars; this EDD can disconnect the extra wheels from the final drive for maximum efficiency gains. Located inside the final drive, this design can also be tailored to meet higher torque demands.

Gearbox

Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT)

GKN Automotives first generation Multi-Mode eTransmission was launched in 2013, the second generation followed in 2021. This dedicated hybrid transmission works in combination with an electric motor, a generator and ICE, delivering a greatly improved fuel efficiency and high performance. The system enables four operating modes: EV drive, series hybrid, parallel hybrid as well as a charging mode.

Baseline ECU platform

Offering a comprehensive portfolio of modular building blocks and innovative design concepts, GKN Automotive’s baseline axle-mounted ECU platform can be tailored specifically to any application requirements. Featuring the highest IP69K protection rating, it enables the creation of cost-effective and high-performing products across a broad spectrum of AWD and eDrive transmissions. Also available for in-cabin mount.

Park Lock System

The fundamental principle and concept of GKN Automotive’s Park Lock System is standard, with the ability to adjust the park wheel to meet functional requirements. Typically, the system uses a BLDC actuator, but it can also be driven by a brushed DC motor as well as by hydraulic actuation. Based on customer requirements, the system can also include a redundant locking mechanism as well as a pawl position sensor.
